Rooftop fire at Revolver Hotel beside House of Gods in Glasgow - emergency services in attendance

Emergency services are attending a rooftop fire as flames are seen above historic buildings on Wilson Street and Glassford Street in Glasgow city centre.

Smoke and flames were seen on the rooftop of a historic city centre building this evening as the Fire Service and Police attended the scene. The fire developed on the rooftop directly behind the House of Gods hotel. The building where the fire started is home to the Polo Lounge and Revolver Hotel.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it was alerted to the blaze around 6.20pm. Eleven appliances were sent to the city centre location, including two high reach vehicles.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We received a report by 999 call around 6.18pm. There are 11 appliances in attendance. The incident is ongoing.”

A statement from Glasgow City Council read: “Due to a building fire, Glassford Street has been closed to all traffic between Ingram Street and Trongate.

“Road users are advised to avoid this area.”

Homeless Project Scotland said its soup kitchen, which is on Glassford Street, has been evacuated as a precaution.

In a post on social media, it said: “Everyone is safe. Emergency services attended. For safety reasons, the soup kitchen is now closed until further notice while the situation is assessed.”

The Trades Hall, one of Glasgow’s oldest buildings, has also been evacuated as a safety precaution.

Revolver Hotel opened in the Merchant City in August 2022, offering an LGBTQ+-friendly, boutique-style stay above the Polo Lounge nightclub with shared dormitories, private rooms, and apartment style accommodation. The building has a rooftop terrace with a spa and gym area.

House of Gods launched in April 2024 after extensive renovations of a landmark building at Glassford Street, offering opulent rooms, a Garden of Eden-themed rooftop bar, and a focus on extravagant guest experiences like in-room prosecco service.
