Exclusive:Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf branded 'part-time MSPs' for contributing the least to Holyrood in 2025
Both former first ministers are due to stand down from frontline politics at the upcoming Scottish Parliament election.
Former first ministers Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf have been branded “part-time MSPs” after new data showed they contributed the least to Holyrood in 2025.
Data compiled by the political monitoring company PoliMonitor ranked Ms Sturgeon bottom in its list of “busiest MSPs” as she asked just six written questions and gave just 12 spoken contributions last year.
Ranked second bottom is the SNP MSP for Uddingston and Bellshill Stephanie Callaghan, who submitted 13 written questions and made 12 spoken contributions, followed by Mr Yousaf with seven written questions and 19 spoken contributions.

All three MSPs are planning to stand down from frontline politics at the Scottish Parliament election in May.
Annie Wells, the Conservative MSP for Glasgow, said: “Calling Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf part-time MSPs since they resigned from being first minister would be extremely generous.
“They are both clearly counting down the days until they can leave Holyrood for the final time and have little interest in standing up for the interests of their Glasgow constituents.
“Sturgeon has been too busy shamelessly promoting her memoirs, while Humza is more interested in lecturing on international affairs.
“Glasgow deserves better than SNP MSPs who don’t do the job voters expect them to do in Holyrood.”
The bottom 10 busiest MSPs according to the PoliMonitor data includes Joe FitzPatrick, Annabelle Ewing, Jamie Dornan, Ruth Maguire, Collette Stevenson and Willie Coffey from the SNP, Scottish Green co-leader Gillian Mackay and Scottish Labour’s Davy Russell.
Mr Russell only became an MSP halfway through the year after the Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse by-election in June.
Ms Mackay was on maternity leave for a good chunk of 2025.
Ms Maguire has also been absent from the Scottish Parliament for large periods of time as she received treatment for cervical cancer.
Excluding these three politicians, the bottom ranked MSPs for each party were Oliver Mundell (Conservatives), Alex Rowley (Labour), Beatrice Wishart (Lib Dem) and Mark Ruskell (Greens).
The SNP has been approached for comment.
