Furious Labour MPs split on party revamp

DEEP divisions among Scottish Labour MPs emerged last night, with a backlash against plans for the party north of the Border to break free of the UK party.

A row broke out at the weekly meeting of the Parliamentary Labour Party in London, with some Scottish MPs furious about the proposals to break up.

The anger was aimed at shadow defence secretary Jim Murphy, who led a review along with Lothians MSP Sarah Boyack. Critics claimed its conclusions appeared to be “preconceived”.

Labour leader Ed Miliband is said to be “relaxed” about the review’s recommendations, but he was left in no doubt last night that many of his colleagues were unhappy, believing the proposals represented the party “selling out” to the SNP.
