US President Donald Trump has launched a bizarre rant against search engine giant Google, accusing it of '˜hiding' positive news relating to his campaign and his supporters.

The President took to Twitter to claim that a simple Google news search for his name yielded 96 per cent of results for what he termed as ‘National Left-wing media’.

He wrote: “In other words, they have it RIGGED, for me & others, so that almost all stories & news is BAD. Fake CNN is prominent. Republican/Conservative & Fair Media is shut out. Illegal?”

The controversial former businessman added in a follow-up tweet: “Google & others are suppressing voices of Conservatives and hiding information and news that is good. They are controlling what we can & cannot see. This is a very serious situation-will be addressed!”

Conservative politicians in the US have accused social media giants like Facebook and Google of using their algorithms to ensure that right-wing media outlets are seen less by users.

For their part, the sites contend that they are trying to eradicate fake news being hosted on their platforms.
