Scottish football: Police launch investigation after pyros thrown onto pitch at Caley Thistle match
The club has strongly condemned the use of pyrotechnics.
Police have launched an investigation after a fan threw two pyrotechnics onto the pitch at an Inverness Caledonian Thistle match earlier this month.
Caley Thistle were playing Hamilton at the Caledonian Stadium on December 13 when a fan launched two blue smoke devices onto the pitch from the West Terrace during the game.
The Highland club issued a statement last week in response to the incident criticising the behaviour “of a small section of the home support”.
The spokesperson said the club condemned all forms of unacceptable conduct, and said it would take severe action against those using pyrotechnics including reporting incidents to the police.
The police have now confirmed they have launched an investigation and are seeking information to identify the fan responsible.
A police spokesperson said "Taking pyrotechnics into a sporting stadium is a criminal offence and highly dangerous.
“Police Scotland takes a zero-tolerance policy and works closely with clubs and the Scottish Professional Football Association to identify troublemakers.
“Enquiries are ongoing to identify the person responsible, and we are now appealing to anybody who has information to come forwards."
A Caley Thistle spokesperson said: "We are fully supporting the police in their investigation to try to identify the individuals involved".
Anyone with information can call 101 or reach out anonymously through Crime Stoppers quoting crime reference CR/0523366/25.
