Police probe after ‘mass youth disorder’ in Fife town distresses residents

Police are probing mass youth disorder which hit a Fife town on Tuesday night
Officers were called to Aberdour to separate the two groups around 6:00pm. The man leading the investigation said the incident caused “distress” to residents.
And Inspector Gordon Standford warned: “Those involved will be traced and, where criminality is identified, be held accountable.”
The problems arose early in the evening, and officers, including specialist resources, attended.
Police said the the two groups were separated to prevent further disorder, searches conducted, and body worn video used to capture events and allow for identification of those involved. The groups later dispersed and were moved away from the area via public transport hubs. There were no reports of injuries.
Additional enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
Inspector Gordon Stanford said: “This type of behaviour will not be tolerated and those involved will be traced and, where criminality is identified, be held accountable. I appreciate this has caused distress to local residents and I want to reassure them, officers will remain in the area and anyone with concerns can approach them.
“I’d also ask anyone with information on those involved in this disorder to come forward and speak to police. If you have CCTV, doorbell or dash-cam footage which has captured anything of significance, please also bring it to our attention.”
