Why Trainspotting vs Star Wars is a film we need to see
Mark Renton’s attempts to charm Darth Vader would end badly, we suspect

Given he has played both, it’s probably fair to say that Ewan McGregor has a better handle on the capabilities of Jedi knight Obi-Wan Kenobi and Mark Renton, heroin addict, drug dealer and Trainspotting anti-hero, than most people. However, we must take respectful issue with his claim that Renton would survive longer in Star Wars than Kenobi would in 1980s Leith.
On the one hand, Kenobi has a lightsabre capable of slicing off an arm with a flick of his wrist. And, if he preferred not to get involved in actual fighting, he could always mind control a certain Begbie to scare the heck out of anyone who posed the slightest threat.
On the other, Renton would almost certainly try to “wheedle his way” in space, as McGregor suggests. However, we suspect Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine and Jabba the Hutt would all be considerably less likely to be convinced by his dubious charms than a sympathetic Edinburgh benefits officer.
That said, who wouldn’t want to see how it turned out? They made Godzilla vs Kong and Cowboys & Aliens. Trainspotting in Space sounds much better!
