Why Scotland's politicians need to be less twee and more bussin'

Scottish Conservative leader’s criticism of ‘Holyrood bubble’ may strike a chord with some voters
“A desperate place... soul-sapping... the epicentre of twee, civic, self-righteous, self-regarding, crony-stuffed Scotland.” It’s hard to avoid the impression that Russell Findlay is not a big fan of the “Holyrood bubble”.
Although many will disagree with the Scottish Conservative leader’s politics, we suspect more than a few will agree with some of his criticisms. While accepting that “lots of MSPs” do “a grand job”, Findlay said others seemed more interested in issues that Holyrood has “absolutely nothing to do with”. This was, he added, “hugely frustrating” given the parliament’s “huge amount of power... to do good”.
No one wants to be twee, it’s a bad look. Self-righteous? Eugh! A parliament that comes across like that makes the whole country look bad.
So please, MSPs, try to be more soul-enhancing, hard-headed, practical, humble and hard-working. You could even, dare we say it, try to be more cool or, as the kids are apparently saying these days, bussin’ (which we recently learned is not a reference to public transport). Then again, that might come across as a bit desperate – and Russell Findlay wouldn’t like that.
