We just can't help speculate about 'extraordinary' but mysterious archaeological find on Orkney
Archaeologists are being remarkably coy about a new discovery at the 5,000-year-old Ness of Brodgar site
It is “unquestionably among the most important Neolithic sites in Western Europe”, according to global cultural body Unesco. The Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site provides “exceptional evidence of the material and spiritual standards as well as the beliefs and social structures” of the people who lived there some 5,000 years ago.
Now an “extraordinary discovery” has been made during a radar scan of a vast network of buildings, including a temple-style complex, at the Ness of Brodgar. Tantalisingly, however, no one is saying what it is, although one archaeologist revealed it was "totally dissimilar to anything else we've uncovered".

Are we about to witness a discovery on the scale of the King under the Car Park?! The Anglo-Saxon boat burial at Sutton Hoo?!! The Terracotta Army of Qin Shi Huang, first emperor of China?!!!
It’s just possible we’re letting our imagination run away with itself to fill in the information void. After all, an “astonishing” find revealed in 2021 turned out to be a (really, really old) piece of wood.
But still, we just can’t wait to find out!
