‘I think children can access too much stuff they don't need to see online,’ says Prince William

The question of when a child should have their own mobile phone and access to the internet is one all parents must face. And that includes the Prince and Princess of Wales.
In an interview in Brazil, Prince William revealed the issue of whether his son George, 12, should have a phone had become “a little bit of a tense issue”. “Our children don't have phones. I think when George moves on to secondary school, then maybe he might have a phone that has no internet access.”

In a remark echoing the fears of many parents, he added: "I think children can access too much stuff they don't need to see online.” Clearly, the deluge of offensive nonsense written about the Royal Family, particularly on social media, makes George and his siblings somewhat special cases.
However, for all its wonders, the horrors of the internet make the online world a dangerous place for children. Unless and until tech companies find better ways of keeping them safe, for many parents, ‘tense’ conversations with their sons and daughters will be a cross they must continue to bear.
