Non-monstrous extension to Dumfries House set to be right royal wedding venue

A new hall to be added to Dumfries House has been inspired by ‘the vision of His Majesty’

Everybody loves a royal wedding. Well, most people anyway. Americans in particular seem to get incredibly excited about it all, with the wall-to-wall news coverage suggesting they really do miss the monarchy after all these years, despite their republican bravado.

Of course, very few people get to experience such a grand event in person. However, an extension to the 18th-century, Robert Adam masterpiece Dumfries House in Ayrshire could soon change all that. Well, sort of...

“An extension!” we hear you cry, “this better not be one of those ‘monstrous carbuncles’ that King Charles occasionally warns us about.”

Fear not, for the £6.5 million King’s Hall is “inspired by the vision of His Majesty” and will surely be in keeping with the building, which was saved for the nation by the King’s Foundation, a charity set up by Charles in 1990.

So if you book the hall for a “high-end, luxury wedding”, you will be getting married in a right royal venue. Just don’t expect NBC News and the rest to turn up (although you might get a few US tourists).
