How Scotland's Health Awards 2026 provide us all with a truly important reminder
Scotland’s life-savers and miracle workers deserve to be recognised for the extraordinary work they do on a daily basis

In recent years, Scotland’s National Health Service has become a source of much concern over long waiting lists and other serious problems. However, despite this, we must remember that the NHS is, and always has been, a wonderful institution to which the vast majority of us owe a debt of one kind or another.
Its staff are, quite literally, life-savers. They go above and beyond every day, thinking nothing of performing miracles which transform lives. They are there for us when we need them, often at our lowest ebb.
So we are absolutely delighted to support Scotland’s Health Awards, which celebrate the achievements of nurses, doctors, managers, scientists and other staff in health and social care who go that extra mile to help the sick, injured and vulnerable. Nominations are now open for the 16 awards, with a deadline of August 23.
There is no doubt Scotland's health and social care services are under enormous strain, and it is important to face up to problems. However, we should never allow a sense of negativity to overshadow the huge amount of good done by hard-working, dedicated people who are, in many ways, the best of us.
