Good luck Haiti... just not on Sunday

Leilani Taneus-Miller, a Haitian who has lived in Scotland for the last 11 years, tells us today she has been pleasantly surprised by the interest Scots have shown in her home country.

“Before the World Cup, the words Haiti and Scotland rarely featured in conversations, so I think it’s extremely cool that now it’s billboard quality,” she says.

“Everyone is talking about Haiti and Scotland, so I’ll always be grateful myself for football, bringing this visibility to Haitian talent, which is always there.

“It’s a very amazing country with great will, a great determination – it certainly deserves its spot in the World Cup”

The way the World Cup can shine a light on some lesser known parts of the world and their cultures is indeed wonderful.

Our one hope of course is that we are not talking about Haiti after Sunday’s match for all the wrong reasons.

We wish the Haiti team all the best for the tournament ahead – just not at 2am on Sunday. Come on Scotland!
