Five reasons why it's worth paying £20 to get the flu vaccine
If more people get the flu vaccine, the chances that someone who is unable to have it will catch the disease will be lower
Amid growing concerns about a particularly nasty strain of flu this winter and fears about the extra pressure on our already ailing NHS, there is something that many of us can and should do: get vaccinated as soon as possible.
Those who do not qualify for a free flu jab may think that’s because they don’t need it. This is absolutely not the case. By paying about £20 to a pharmacist to be vaccinated, you can achieve not one but five (mostly) worthwhile things:
One, protect yourself against a nasty infection. Two, protect vulnerable people who are not able to have the vaccine or who cannot afford it. Three, help hard-pressed doctors and nurses.

Four, send a message to idiotic anti-vaxxers about the benefits of this miracle of medical science; and five, you also get to casually drop into conversation that “I’ve had my flu jab” and feel a slightly smug glow inside.
So go on, if you can, do your bit for your fellow citizens and help keep Scotland as safe as it can be from a disease that is potentially a lot worse than its reputation.
