Don't laugh! Jeremy Corbyn just took a Great Leap Forward on Long March to Corbymania part two

Remember young people singing ‘Oh Jeremy Corbyn’? It just might be about to make a comeback

When Jeremy Corbyn stood to become Labour leader in 2015, some commentators laughed at the idea that such a hard-left politician stood any chance of leading the party of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, just five years after New Labour’s fall from grace.

However, their smiles quickly faded as left-wing Britain embraced their new champion and chants of “Oh Jeremy Corbyn” – to the tune of the White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army – rang around music festivals.

Sadly for Corbymania fans (but thankfully for Britain), he failed to win over the rest of the country, found himself banned from standing as a Labour MP, and forced to start anew with the oddly named Your Party party, which quickly set about proving that life can imitate satire.

A massive Life of Brian-style ‘splitters’ bust-up then ensued between Corbyn’s ‘The Many’ faction and fellow ex-Labour MP Zarah Sultana’s ‘Grassroots Left’. Now Corbyn has, once again, emerged victorious, paving the way for him to become the sole leader rather than the collective model favoured by his rival.

A Great Leap Forward on the Long March to Corbymania part two? We’re laughing now...
