As 1970s revival gathers pace, get ready for Spam fritters with your cottage cheese
With cottage cheese and flares both making a comeback, what 1970s favourite will be next?
We all know TikTok is a curious mix of a sinister plot by the Chinese Communist Party to take over the world and a delightful place of virtual choirs singing the Wellerman sea shanty.
However, it is also where it’s at – the virtual hang-out for young people to do youthful and modern things. So it’s pretty much the last place you’d expect to see that staple of 1970s cuisine, cottage cheese, taking centre stage.

However, TikTok recipes for “cottage cheese breakfast rounds” and “cottage cheese edible cookie dough” have been racking up millions of views, sparking a new/old culinary craze. So much so that Graham’s Family Dairy has just spent £3.5 million on an extension to its Glenfield site in Fife and is taking on another 25 people in order to raise production by 50 per cent.
With flares also on trend, it seems the 70s are back. So get ready for roller-discos, playing Monopoly by candlelight during power cuts, and having parties with Spam fritters, Butterscotch Angel Delight, and one of those cheese-and-pineapple hedgehog things. We can’t wait!
