'A golden time in a golden place': Is this Edinburgh Festival Fringe's greatest love story?
Fourteen years after a Fringe romance, performer Molly Taylor and stage manager Sam Thornber create a heart-warming, real-life romantic drama

There are many reasons why people perform at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. But has there ever been a better one than the motivation for Molly Taylor to revive her one-woman show, Love Letters to the Public Transport System after 14 years?
It was described as “stunning” by Scotsman critic Joyce McMillan, and we gave it a four-star review. But that’s not the reason. Taylor’s friend Francesca Moody, who helped stage it, is the producer of Fringe-to-screen hits like Fleabag and Baby Reindeer, but neither was dreaming of similar fame.
Instead, for one night only, Taylor put on the show as an excuse to lure her partner, Sam Thornber, to Edinburgh for a surprise proposal – delivered via a wall of Fringe posters saying: “Sam will you marry me?” The couple first met when they had a “Fringe romance” in Edinburgh in 2012.
“It was such an elaborate ploy, I can’t believe Molly got away with it,” said Thornber, who said “yes”. Taylor added: “We’ve just had such a golden time in a golden place.” A heart-warming tale to be immortalised on stage? Watch this space...
