67-year-old starting out as a stand-up comedian is an inspiration to all
‘You get such a buzz from making people laugh and seeing people leave with a smile on their face,’ says budding stand-up comedian, 67
Even if you’re retired, it doesn’t mean you have to be retiring. Just ask Andy Burke.
The 67-year-old from Springburn has been taking a crash course in stand-up comedy and is now planning to deliver his routine at a gig called The Old Ones Are The Best (geddit?), as part of Glasgow International Comedy Festival.
“Trying comedy later in life has been brilliant... I absolutely loved it,” he said. “You get such a buzz from making people laugh and seeing people leave with a smile on their face. My advice to anyone older thinking about trying something new is simple: just go for it. You might be more gifted than you think.”

Stand-up is obviously not for everyone. But, whether it’s setting up a punk rock band or a knitting circle with some septuagenarian kindred spirits, no one should let their age become a state of mind that holds them back.
If you’re inspired to make a change, you may wish to consider going along to The Social Hub in Glasgow on April 1 to give young-at-heart Andy a “buzz” by laughing at his jokes.
