Ochil Hills rescue: Injured walker airlifted to hospital on hectic day for Scottish mountain rescue team
It was meant to be a training day for members of a Scottish mountain rescue team – but they were called into live action three times on Sunday as walkers took to the hills to enjoy the fine weather.
Ochils Mountain Rescue Team were going through their practise drills when they received a call from Police Scotland shortly after midday to assist a hill walker who had taken a fall near the summit of Dumyat in the Ochil Hills.
On arrival, the casualty was treated by team medics before being carried off the hill on a stretcher to an awaiting ambulance.
Then, before the team even arrived back at their base, they were called out again – this time by the Scottish Ambulance Service Special Operations (SORT) team to assist a casualty who had fallen into a gorge near Cambusbarron.
OMRT members set up a rope rescue system to reach the casualty and bring them up the hill, where they were met by a coastguard rescue helicopter, who flew the casualty to hospital.
No sooner had the helicopter taken off than both the OMRT and SORT teams were called out – for a third time – to a climber who had taken a fall in the Cambusbarron area.
Both teams diverted to this location and the casualty was assessed by paramedics and a team doctor.
After receiving treatment, the fallen climber was able to walk off the hill with the assistance of paramedics.

A statement from the OMRT said: “Today has been a busy day for all assets involved, lots of excellent multi agency working between Mountain Rescue and the Scottish Ambulance Service.”
