Full list of new Edinburgh bus diversions to ease rush hour gridlock following Princes Street fire

Commuters have reported delays of up to 30 minutes since the bus diversions were introduced following the fire on Princes Street

Lothian Buses has announced further alterations to bus services to address significant congestion on George Street amid the ongoing closure of Princes Street.

Over 50 bus routes were diverted following the fire which ravaged the former Debenhams store on July 9. However, the changes have led to daily bottlenecks on George Street and the surrounding streets with commuters reporting delays of up to 30 minutes during peak rush hour times.

Lothian Buses said the revised diversions followed a detailed review of the latest data and ongoing discussions with Edinburgh council. The alterations will be in force from Wednesday and will only apply between 9am and 8pm.

The buses affected are services 15, 33 and 34, the Lothian Country service 43 and East Coast Buses services 106 and X6.

A spokesperson said: “These changes are necessary to help support road capacity on George Street as the city experiences its busiest weeks of the summer during August.

“They are essential to keep the bus network moving and supporting reliable journeys for customers.

“We understand that changes to routes can be disruptive and appreciate customers’ patience and understanding while these measures remain in place.”
