Man charged with Calders knife attack remanded at high security psychiatric hospital
The state hospital houses some of Scotland's most serious criminal offenders
A man charged in connection with attempting to murder two people and assaulting two others during a knife incident at Calder Gardens in March is being held at a high-security psychiatric hospital, it has been revealed.
On March 2, the Calders area of Edinburgh was locked down by police following reports of a man allegedly walking the streets carrying two large knives.
The incident left two people injured, with one man having suffered non-life threatening stab wounds and a woman having been left with a head injury which police said was ‘not believed to have been caused by a bladed weapon’.

Both were taken to Edinburgh’s Royal Infirmary for treatment but were discharged.
Mustafa Kokoneh, a Chad national who has lived in Edinburgh since 2023, later appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on March 4, where he faced eight charges - including two counts of attempted murder.
The 23-year-old faced two further counts of ‘assault to danger of life’, as well as a charge of breach of the peace. The remaining three charges related to possession of a bladed article, carrying offensive weapons and vandalism.
This week there have been several posts on social media claiming that the accused has been released on bail as he awaited trial.
It has since been revealed that the 23-year-old is being held on remand at Carstairs, a high security state psychiatric hospital in South Lanarkshire, which houses some of Scotland's most serious criminal offenders.
A date for his trial has not been set.
