Man arrested in Aberdeen in connection with shooting of teenager in England
‘Non-stop’ investigation into shooting of teenager involves Scotland’s national force
Police Scotland have arrested a man in Aberdeen on suspicion of attempted murder following the shooting of a teenage boy in England.
The 16 year-old was found injured on London Road in Sheffield at around 5.15pm last Monday. He was taken to hospital, where his condition remains critical.
South Yorkshire Police said that following a “non-stop investigation” utilising specialist resources and other forces, the man was detained by officers from Scotland’s national force on Saturday night, along with a 23 year-old woman, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both remain in custody.

It is understood the Police Scotland arrests were carried out following a raid involving armed officers at CitiHouse Aberdeen West End around 8pm on Saturday, with guests evacuated from the accommodation in the city’s Great Western Road.
It comes after the South Yorkshire force arrested two boys - aged 15 and 16 respectively - on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder on Tuesday. They have since been released on bail.
A 40 year-old man was also arrested last week by the force on suspicion of assisting an offender. He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
South Yorkshire Police’s Detective Chief Inspector Emma Knight, the senior investigating officer for the case, said officers were continuing to carry out reassurance patrols in the London Road area of the South Yorkshire city.

She said: “Our investigation into this shooting is continuing at pace and I want to thank everyone who has contacted us with information so far.
“Your support really is crucial as we strive to secure justice for the injured child and his family and put an end to gun crime in South Yorkshire. Collectively, we will not tolerate the risk these weapons pose to our communities.
"This incident understandably caused a lot of concern and heartache in the local communities and our thoughts remain with the child's family. He is 16 years of age and should have been looking forward to his future but now, his life has been put on pause as he remains in a critical condition following this horrific act of violence.”
Det Ch Insp Knight added: “I continue to urge anyone who has information that they think may be relevant to our investigation to please get in touch if you haven't already done so.”
In the wake of the shooting politicians in the Sheffield area expressed sympathy with the victim’s family.
Abtisam Mohamed, the Labour MP for Sheffield Central, said she was “deeply shocked and saddened” by the incident, adding: “My thoughts are with him, his family and all those affected as they face what must be an unimaginably difficult time.
“I urge anyone with information to contact South Yorkshire Police and help bring clarity to this incident.”
