Dunbar incident: Late-night rescue mission at treacherous East Lothian cliffs after person falls on rocks

The section of the coastline is notoriously treacherous.

A person has been rescued from the cliffs on the Dunbar coast after a late night rescue mission by emergency services on Sunday.

Coastguard teams from Eyemouth, Dunbar and North Berwick, as well as police, fire and ambulance crews, were called to the area known as the Eye Cave, near the Dunbar Leisure Pool, at around 10.30pm after a report of a person having fallen on the rocks.

A spokesperson for the Eyemouth Coastguard said the injured person was quickly located and stabilised, before being stretchered to safety and treated by waiting ambulance crews.

The condition of the injured person has not been confirmed.

Crews praised the multi-agency response, which they said was carried out in “challenging coastal conditions”.

They urged people to take extra care when visiting coastal areas, and to be aware of the dangers of changing tides, uneven ground and slippery rocks.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted by our emergency service partners at 10.30pm on Sunday, 8 February, to reports of a person fallen onto rocks near to Dunbar Leisure Pool, Castle Park in Dunbar.

“Operations Control immediately mobilised three appliances and other specialist resources to the scene.

“One casualty was rescued and passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.”

“Crews left the scene at 10.54am”.

The Scottish Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
