Police are urging anyone with information to come forward while enquiries are ongoing.
A police investigation is underway after a woman was raped in Kirkcaldy on Sunday morning.
The incident took place between around 2am and 5am at a wooded area behind Abbots Mill in the Fife town.
Officers said the woman did not require hospital treatment but described the incident as a “terrible ordeal” for the victim.
They said there will be increased police patrols in the area while enquiries take place.
Detective Inspector Samantha Davidson said: "This was a terrible ordeal for the woman, and we are doing everything we can to trace the man responsible.
"Extensive enquiries are ongoing and I would ask anyone who was in the area in the early hours of Sunday morning who may have seen something suspicious to get in touch with us.”

Chief Inspector Michael Booker said: “I understand an incident such as this is concerning for the local community, and we have a dedicated enquiry team working on this investigation.
“Anyone with concerns should speak to officers without hesitation. There will be an increased police presence in the area with officers conducting high visibility patrols, and I would urge anyone with information or concerns to approach them.”
