Scotland's weather: Sunshine set to turn to torrential rain

AFTER a few days of glorious sunshine which saw sun worshippers take to the parks and beaches or manning the barbecue, Scots are being warned it is all change today and to expect torrential downpours, thunder and lightning and travel disruption due to flooding.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy thundery showers from around 2pm this afternoon until 9pm this evening (tues) across much of Scotland, from the Highlands to the Borders, with localised torrential downpours.
A Met Office spokesman said it was possible more than 20mm of rain could fall hourly with more than 50 mm in a few hours.
“Tyndrum in Perthshire was the hottest place in Scotland with a high of 26.7C.
“The wet weather is due to the rapid rising of moist air that cools and condenses forming clouds. This then leads to thunder storms and lightning.
The forecaster added that the weekend was likely to see a mixed pattern of weather ranging from sunshine and showers to spells of squally rain across the country.
Weather outlook:
TODAY: thundery showers, hail, heavy rain
TOMORROW: rain and some sunshine across the country
THURSDAY: showers developing and forming quickly in parts
FRIDAY: cooler temperatures and squally showers
SATURDAY: mixed weather, light wind, throughout most of mainland Scotland and the island
