Portobello Beach search: Emergency response to reports of girls 'in difficulty' in sea stood down
A major search is under way for two girls
A major emergency operation was under way at Portobello Beach earlier this evening following reports of two girls “in difficulty” in the water.
Emergency services, including lifeboat crews, the Coastguard, police and rescue helicopters, descended on the Edinburgh beach after the incident was first reported to the Coastguard shortly before 5pm.
The search continued for four hours before being called off at 8.55pm. A Coastguard spokesperson said: “After an extensive search, no one was found to be in distress and the HM Coastguard response was stood down at about 8.55pm, pending any new information.”
