Inspector Colin Deans had said on Sunday morning: “Local officers have been assisted by resources, including police dogs and the helicopter.

“Shane may have been injured in the crash ... he has links throughout the Scottish Borders and we are carrying out inquiries in a number of areas. He may have taken shelter and we ask anyone with sheds or outbuildings to please check them.”
