A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The A71 is currently closed at Dalmahoy Road, Currie, Edinburgh due to a crash involving a single car reported just after 4.20am. Three men have been taken to hospital. Please use alternative routes at this time.”

Bus diversions are also in place, with the 70, X27, X28 and X40 services having been affected.

Lothian Buses said the 70 service is currently unable to serve the A71 at Dalmahoy and Hermiston Park and Ride and are instead terminating at Hallcroft Park, Ratho ‘until further notice’. It added that the other services will be diverted via Bonnington Road, Cliftonhall Road, Newbridge, Glasgow Road and A720 City Bypass in both directions until the road reopens.
