Edinburgh tram hits pedestrian forcing closure of large section of Leith Walk
Motorists advised to avoid the area and trams affected
A large section of Leith Walk in Edinburgh has been closed after a pedestrian was hit by a tram.
Police confirmed emergency services were called to the incident on Leith Walk at about 9am on Sunday.
Leith Walk in Edinburgh is closed between Crighton Place and Albert Street, following a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a tram between McDonald Road and Balfour Street that happened around 9am on Sunday, May 24.
With the Edinburgh Marathon already affecting travel on the east side of the city due to road closures and diversions, road users are advised to avoid the area.

Shortly after 9am, Edinburgh Trams changed to a split service, with trams running between Edinburgh Airport and St Andrew Square, and Newhaven and Balfour Street.
However, at 9.30am, the city’s trams changed to a part route service between the airport and the city centre.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Leith Walk is closed from Duke Street to Iona Street following a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a tram that happened around 9am on Sunday, 24 May.
“Road users are advised to avoid the area.”
A post on X by Edinburgh Trams said: “Due to an incident between McDonald Rd and Balfour St trams are running a part route service between Edinburgh Airport & St Andrew Sq only. Ticket acceptance in place with Lothian buses between St Andrew Sq - Newhaven. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.”
Lothian Buses has confirmed that its Leith Walk services have been diverted.
