Edinburgh city centre rum bar Ruma announces sad closure less than two years after opening on Broughton Street
An Edinburgh city centre rum bar has announced it is set to close its doors for good, less than two years after opening.
Ruma - Scots Gaelic for Rum - opened for business at 39-41 Broughton Street in March, 2024, with over 100 bottles of the spirit and a range of signature cocktails including inventive twists on classic rum serves.

The bar, which describes itself as ‘home to Scotland’s largest collection of rum’, was placed on the market in July for lease due to a ‘change in personal circumstances’.
The ‘gutted’ owners, seen in the video above when the bar opened, have now revealed that Ruma will close on Sunday, January 4, after trying to keep the business afloat in a ‘very challenging climate’.

Posting on Facebook on Monday, December 22, they said: “A bit of sad news to end the year. Unfortunately, we are having to close our doors for good on January 4.
“We have tried our best in a very challenging climate but our false start last year and a number of other factors mean we can’t go on any more.
“While we are gutted to be closing, we want to take the opportunity to thank each and every one of you who took the time to come and see us for a drink. You managed to make something special and we won’t forget it!
“There’s still time to come down and see us one last time, as it will be business as usual up until the 4th when we will have one last closing party!
“Thank you again for your support over the last two years. Can’t wait to see who takes the venue on its next steps!”
