West Dunbartonshire crime: Residents urged to be 'cautious' after reports of fake police officer

Three home owners were contacted by a woman impersonating an officer on Wednesday.

West Dunbartonshire residents have been asked to be ‘cautious’ after reports of a woman impersonating a police officer.

During three occasions on Wednesday, home owners had been contacted via a withheld number from a woman with an English accent claiming to be a police officer.

Police have said the woman does not ask for money or personal details. However, they added these calls are malicious and impersonating a police officer is a crime.

Inspector MacNeill said: "We are urging residents to be cautious if they receive a phone call from someone claiming to be a police officer, particularly if this unexpected.

"You can ask for their name, shoulder number or PSI number and any genuine police officer will have these to hand.

“If you have any doubts at all, hang up and then call 101."
