Wave of condemnation following violence in wake of stabbing

First Minister John Swinney and Prime Minister Keir Starmer are among those condemning last night’s violence and protesting across Belfast, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Ayr.

The protests follow a stabbing in Belfast on Monday night.

Hadi Alodid, a 30-year-old Sudanese man, was remanded in custody after appearing in court charged with attempted murder over Monday's knife attack in which victim Stephen Ogilvie lost his left eye.

The reaction to the incident saw mobs set homes, a bus and cars on fire, with people targeted based on their race.
