More than 8,000 guests dressed to the nines turned out in Musselburgh on Friday for Scotland’s most glamorous day at the races.
The sell-out fixture, held in partnership with Champagne Pommery, brought together Flat racing and high fashion, as well as live entertainment and the Style Awards, hosted this year by radio presenter Grant Stott.
This year’s Style Awards overall winner was Jennifer Greenwood, from Berwick-upon-Tweed, who impressed judges with her emerald green outfit with hat and dress sourced in Ireland.
As part of her prize Jennifer will travel to Reims in France to experience the Champagne Pommery estate and home of the world-famous brand.
She said: “I only set out for a really good day and to have a bit of fun with all the girls at Ladies Day. It has been a memorable day. I am going to take my husband Peter to Champagne Pommery Reims, he deserves a holiday.”
The Best Hat Award was won by Cheryl Kinnear from Hawick, whose attention to detail caught the eye of the judges.
She said: “I am just blown away. I have walked around the racecourse and there are so many outstanding hats. When I saw the other nine girls on the stage I thought ‘there is no way I am going to win’.”
Meanwhile, local Musselburgh lad Reece McNamara won Suit of the Day award. Tongue-in-cheek, he said: “I do look pretty good, to be fair. I am £500 up and life is looking good. I’ve never seen anyone suit this suit like me.”
Celebrations continued after the final race, with top DJ and The Voice presenter Reggie Yates keeping the atmosphere going at the official After Party, before a special guest appearance by rapper, singer and songwriter Tinchy Stryder.
Aisling Johnston, Head of Marketing and Business Development at Musselburgh Racecourse, said: “Ladies Day is one of the highlights of the Scottish racing calendar because it brings together fantastic racing, great entertainment and an atmosphere that really is unlike anything else.
“Every year we are amazed by the creativity, colour and sheer effort people put into their outfits. Whether they entered the Style Awards or simply came to enjoy a great day out with friends and family, everyone helped create another memorable occasion.
“Although this year’s event has only just finished, we’re already looking ahead and discussing ways to make Ladies Day even better next year.
“We never stand still and are always looking at new ideas to keep the event fresh while retaining everything people love about it.”
