Hollywood movie star Kiefer Sutherland announces gig in Glasgow as part of world tour
The Hollywood star of Stand By Me, The Lost Boys, A Few Good Men and television series 24 will return to Glasgow on his latest tour.
Actor Kiefer Sutherland has added an extra dimension to his career in recent years as a singer-songwriter. The star of television series 24 and Netflix drama Designated Survivor is setting out on a world tour. The UK and Ireland leg will see gigs between May 12 and 27 in London, Norwich, Wolverhampton, Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester, Belfast, Dublin, Cardiff, Exeter, Bournemouth, Oxford and Leeds.
His concert in Glasgow will take place on Saturday 26 May at The Old Fruitmarket, Candleriggs, as part of the Love Will Bring You Home tour. The support act is Colin Andrew.
The tour announcement says: "Kiefer Sutherland is an internationally acclaimed actor, musician, producer, and director whose career has spanned more than four decades in film, television, and music.
"Best known for his Emmy and Golden Globe winning role as Jack Bauer in the groundbreaking television series 24, Sutherland has built a reputation as one of the most versatile and respected performers of his generation.
"In recent years, he has also established himself as a passionate and authentic singer-songwriter, earning international chart success and selling out venues worldwide.”
Since Sutherland embarked on a series of live tours with his band, he has been a frequent visitor to Glasgow, describing a 2019 gig at the Queen Margaret Union venue as the “best night of my life.”
His maternal grandfather, Tommy Douglas, the prominent Canadian politician credited with bringing universal healthcare to Canada, was born in Falkirk but moved to Glasgow as a child before the family emigrated.
A successful actor since he appeared in back-to-back hit movies Stand by Me (1986), The Lost Boys (1987) and Young Guns (1988), Kiefer is the son of actors, Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas. He holds dual British-Canadian citizenship and was born in London while his parents were working in the UK. He has stated that his "allegiance is with Scotland" and often highlights his pride in his Scottish heritage.
Another link to Scotland is East Kilbride actor Adam Sinclair, the husband of Kiefer Sutherland’s step-daughter, Michelle Kath.
