The brand offers Miami-style food

Lothian Road is cementing its reputation as Edinburgh’s fast food mile, with the opening of SoBe burgers on February 14.

This is a Miami-style smash-burger brand, which also has a branch in Dalkeith, as well as a dozen in England and 200 delivery sites. This makes it the fastest growing burger brand in Britain, and it's owned by entrepreneurial friends Tom Ducker and Alex M, who founded it in London back in 2019.

The sit-in and takeaway spot will be taking over the former Salt ‘n’ Vinegar fish and chip premises that’s next door to Nando’s and across the road from another popular burger joint, Bread Meats Bread.

Over the opening weekend, the new branch of SoBe will be offering a free burger to its first 50 customers from 5pm on Valentine’s Day, with a further 50 per cent off burgers from Friday February 14 to Monday February 17.

If you’re rolling home after a late night and have the munchies, SoBe Lothian Road plans to be open until 3am on weekends and 1am on weekdays, with 20 per cent off after 11pm.

The huge and unwieldy looking burgers, which are also available via Deliveroo and Uber Eats, come in at around the £10-£12 mark, with varieties including the Truffle Cheeseburger, with two aged beef patties, American cheese, truffle mayo, dill pickles and crispy onions, or the Green Chilli Cheeseburger, which features the same cheese and patties, but also chipotle mayo and pickled green chillies. Or there’s the Confit Garlic Burger, which includes confit garlic mayo.

They also offer buttermilk chicken versions, with names including Truffle Shuffle, The OG and Hot as Cluck, and vegan burgers, as well as sides including loaded fries, which are dressed with their famous sauces as well as chives and crispy onions.

The name SoBe is short for South Beach, as the city of Miami is famous for its smash burgers, aka thin beef patties that have been whacked and squashed onto a hot grill so they get an extra crispy crust on the edges.
