9. A rare migrant arrives
The cuckoo is a bird that's well known for it's distinctive call and devious tactic of laying eggs in other birds' nests. They arrive in Britain from Africa in April in order to match the breeding pattern of host species. They are rare in Scotland have have been seen in recent years around the banks of Loch Katrine. 10. Wait patiently for Ratty
While water voles don't hibernate, they do spend most of their time in their burrows during winter. April is the perfect time to see them out-and-about on a sunny day, although patience is required as they are shy creatures. Set up camp next to a river or canal where you know they live, enjoy a long and relaxed picnic, and keep your eye out. Photo: Canva/Getty Images
