While Scotland does get cold over the winter months, it’s also a time of spectacular views of snow-capped mountains, frozen lochs and frosty glens.
It’s said that “there’s no such thing as the wrong weather, only the wrong clothing” and that’s certainly the case at this time of the year.
So, get your winter jacket, gloves and scarf on and enjoy the best of what Scotland offers – free of the crowds of tourists that summer brings.
Here are 10 of the best walks to enjoy before spring.

9. Roslin Glen
Starting at Rosslyn Chapel - which attracts thousands of tourists in summer thanks to its starring role in Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code - the easy-to-follow Roslin Glen walk also takes in the River North Esk, an ancient gunpowder mill (pictured), and the dramatic ruins of the 16th century Rosslyn Castle. 10. Clyde Walkway
On a clear winter's day there's no better way to blow away the cobwebs than a walk along the River Clyde. Start at the Riverside Museum (entry is free if you want to pop in for a look at the transport exhibitions) and walk east, over and under the many bridges alongside sights such as the Finnieston Crane and the Hydro, to get to Glasgow Green.
