It’s June, which means we’ve finally made it to summer and arguably the best month for wildlife watching in Scotland.
Now is a great time to see many of Scotland’s most iconic animals, with longer days and warmer weather giving you a better – and more comfortable – chance of catching a glimpse of a golden eagle, majestic stag, red squirrel or playful otter.
While these animals can be sighted throughout much of the year, other wildlife experiences are far more time restricted.

9. Watch your step
Toads travel about a surprising amount during the first half of the year. In February they make their annual pilgrimage to ancestral ponds to breed. By June the tadpoles have grown into small toadlets which will now take part in a reverse migration - leaving the ponds and heading to woodlands and other moist areas for the remainder of the year. So look out for these tiny creatures when you are out and about - they are easy to accidentally stand on. Photo: Canva/Getty Images

10. Go batty
June is when baby bats are born, with preganant females making the most of warmer weather to form maternity roosts - gathering in huge numbers to give birth in safety. If you spot a bat it's most likely to be the soprano pipistrelle - a common sight darting around the sky catching insects at dusk. There are a numer of other types to spot though - it's thought that at least nine of the 17 UK species of bat can be seen north of the border. Photo: Canva/Getty Images
