The 17 most awarded Scotch whiskies of 2025 - including GlenAllachie and Loch Lomond

As we leave 2025 behind, Rosalind Erskine takes a look at which Scotch whiskies and distilleries won some of the top awards.

It has been a busy year with new whisky launches, from old and rare drams to brilliant non-age statements. While the Scotch whisky industry faces a slow down, it is still producing some excellent whisky, as seen by the sheer number of award wins.

With this in mind, I’ve taken a look at some of the most awarded whiskies, brands and distilleries at some of the biggest and well-respected awards that take place annually.

Angus Dundee, who makes Glencaddam and Tomintoul, scooped 14 medals across their two brands - including gold medals and a master medal. This master medal, the highest award, went to Old Ballantruan 15 Year Old, which is distilled at Tomintoul Distillery using heavily peated barley and matured in American oak casks for over 15 years.

Glencaddam gold medal winners included: 10 Year Old, 15 Year Old, 18 Year Old, American Oak Reserve, Reserva de Madeira, Reserva PX and Reserva Andalucía.

Rosebank distillery won multiple awards at Top Shelf 2025 but it was its 31 year old which was awarded ‘Best in Show Whisk(e)y’ at the 2025 San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC), officially recognising it as the world’s best whisky. The Best in Show title is the highest honour in global spirits judging. This accolade marks a landmark moment in the revival of Rosebank, long considered the “King of the Lowlands” and one of Scotland’s most admired distilleries.

Isle of Raasay distillery also had a brilliant 2025 as its cask strength single malt was awarded a platinum medal and won best Scotch whisky at the Las Vegas Global Spirit Awards.

Loch Lomond won multiple gold outstanding awards but it was its 18 year old single malt which won the Single Malt Scotch Whisky Under 20 YO Trophy at the IWSC Spirits Awards, announced in September.

At the same awards Chivas Brothers’ A’glac Charrann 27 YO single malt took the Over 20 YO Trophy. While the Blended Scotch Whisky Trophy was also awarded to Dewar’s Double Double 38 YO.

Over in Speyside, GlenAllachie had a brilliant start to the year as its 12 year old was crowned the World’s Best Single Malt Scotch whisky at the 2025 World Whiskies Awards. I tried it not long after the announcement, and can see why it took home such an acclaimed award.

For the second year in a row, Aultmore 25 year old was a top scorer (95.10 points) at the International Whisky Competition (IWC) 2025 and was awarded the top prize in the scotch category.

Back in June, our Scran awards took place and Best Whisky was won by Rhythm and Booze Records release 1 - a 13-year-old single cask blended malt Scotch whisky.

After trying a range of whiskies throughout the year, I recently wrote about the top 10, including our whisky of the year which went to Nc’nean Quiet Rebel Simon - a non-age statement whisky whose liquid was partially matured in an Innis & Gunn stout cask.
