Scotland's Larder: Marie Thomson of What's for tea tonight? farm shop

Having grown up on a farm that relied on the local community to come and harvest raspberries, potatoes and other vegetables Marie wanted to contribute this opportunity to our community. Twenty years as a physiotherapist Marie is committed to offering this unique educational experience to all ages, abilities and walks of life.

Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) is an ambitious project driven by Education Scotland aimed at equipping young people with the skills and knowledge they will need to flourish in work, and support diversity in the workforce.

In Summer 2019, we proudly partnered with Carronhill School to provide an opportunity for their students to gain hands-on experience of Farming in the Field and to develop skills in tending crops and caring for animals. We volunteer 90 minutes per week of Farming in the field hands on education for active assisted needs to Carronhill School.

We would be very grateful for any photos you can kindly send to us to use to promote Farming in the field hands on education for all ages, abilities and walks of life.

Active Assisted Needs Education

Whether using a wheelchair or concentrating so hard when sowing seeds, you can come along and learn the knowledge and skills of farming, which you can transfer back into your school and allotment. Come and have fun with Marie and her team caring for our pet pigs, Pinky & Dotty, and donkeys, Keiran and Johnny as well as tending to crops to gain skills that can be used in your school, allotment and caring for your pets. You can book last minute or in advance as a group or on a one-one basis.

As always the weather dictates the tasks of the day throughout all seasons. Our lessons plan takes this into consideration and is individually tailored to your needs based on weather, season, animal care required for that day, length of visit and the individual abilities and ages of the group.
