M&S launch ‘nutrient dense’ food range - designed for those on weight loss jags

The high street supermarket has launched a range designed for those eating less.

As we head into the new year, many people will be thinking about trying to eat healthier. With this in mind, M&S has introduced a new Nutrient Dense range of ready meals and snacks, designed for the health conscious but also those eating less due to weight loss jags.

According to the supermarket, the new range will also help provide nutrients that people in the UK historically don’t eat enough of, including fibre. The UK is deficient in a number of nutrients – with a whopping 96 per cent of us not meeting the daily fibre recommendation. The M&S Nutrient Dense range includes salads, drinks, snacks and meals that are packed with fibre, vitamins and minerals.

Made from whole foods and store cupboard ingredients, the new 20 products have been created from recipes developed from a curated larder of 250 ingredients, carefully selected by the M&S in-house nutritionists and chefs.

Each product also contains at least one of 10 micronutrients such as vitamin D, iron, folate and vitamin B12 that many people are lacking in their diet. They’re also high in or a source of fibre, calorie controlled and have the Eat Well seal of approval so shoppers can ‘confidently know you’re making a healthy and balanced choice.’ The team has also developed the Nutrient Dense nutrition criteria in consultation with the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF).

M&S head of food trends, Annette Peters, said: “The Nutrient Dense range is so exciting and is also incredibly useful for anyone trying to hit their nutritional targets.

“It is also great if customers are reducing their food intake, such as those using weight-loss medication. We know the use of GLP-1 medications is growing, so it’s more important than ever to ensure that even if people are eating smaller portions, we help provide them with the right level of nutrients.

“We have challenged ourselves to make products that are denser in nutrients than calories, so every single mouthful is packed full of more of the good stuff we all need.

“The importance of us all eating enough fibre cannot be overestimated. As well as helping day to day with effective digestion, long term it is important to reduce the risk of bowel cancer and so many other diseases.

“Products such as our Nutrient Dense Super Seeded Bread, which has 13g of fibre in two slices, are aimed at making it super easy for customers to reach the recommended 30g a day.”

The Nutrient Dense range is available in M&S Foodhalls from January 5 2026. It features the H₅O shot, salads, meals and bread. The H₅O shot is made with coconut water, which is a source of naturally occurring electrolytes, blended with cold-pressed ginger juice, fruit and vegetable fibres, sea moss and a unique combination of botanicals – panax ginseng, Japanese honeysuckle, ginger, yellow passionfruit and green cardamom.

It has been called it H₅O because of these five botanical ingredients, which have been selected and verified by scientists at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. It also contains 4g of fibre from baobab and Jerusalem artichoke in just one shot and is high in iodine, from trendy ingredient of the moment sea moss.
