Two Scottish restaurants gain AA Rosettes - including ‘first class’ fine dining destination

The AA has announced new rosette winners in its spring update.

The AA has announced the full list of spring 2026 rosette winners, which includes restaurants London, Norfolk, Cheshire and Scotland.

According to the AA, the long-established AA Rosettes for culinary excellence “celebrate successful cooking at different levels across the UK.”

They are awarded by the AA's team of inspectors with their wealth of experience in assessing quality, receiving this award is a significant achievement in this industry and beyond.

What are AA Rosettes?

Launched in 1956 by the AA as a guide to travelling to good places to eat (much like the Michelin Guide), the AA Rosette inspectors assess the quality of food served by restaurants and hotels across the UK.

AA Rosettes range from five to one, with Scotland having one five and six four AA Rosettes awarded restaurants.

Establishments with three AA Rosettes are all outstanding restaurants achieving standards which demand national recognition well beyond their local area, while those awarded four AA Rosettes are considered among the top restaurants in the country.

Two AA Rosettes are awarded to excellent restaurants that aim for and achieve high standards and consistency in their cooking, with obvious attention to detail to the selection of quality ingredients.

One AA Rosette is given to restaurants that achieve standards that stand out in their local area. AA inspectors will note that 'they serve food prepared with care, understanding and skill, using good quality ingredients.'

The two Scottish restaurants awarded rosettes for spring 2026 are LOMA by Graeme Cheevers, which is located in Cameron House hotel on Loch Lomond and Sunlaws which is in the Schloss Roxburghe hotel in Kelso. Both were awarded 3 AA Rosettes.

The inspectors said LOMA was home to: “Contemporary cooking using prime Scottish materials in a stunning location.” While in Sunlaws they said: “Discover refined cooking in the Scottish Borders."

The full listing for Sunlaws, which is the award-winning hotel’s fine dining restaurant, reads: “Sunlaws lays claim to being the oldest dining room in the Borders and it is said that Bonnie Prince Charlie even dined here sometime during the Jacobite rebellion.

“Located within a Jacobean mansion in 300 acres of woods and parkland, the elegant restaurant looks the part: linen-clad tables, a large fireplace and views of the grounds provide a formal setting for classic European dishes built on top-class Scottish produce including some from the surrounding estate.

“Glazed veal sweetbreads with grilled peas, black garlic and lovage opens the show, followed by superb pan-fried turbot matched with piperade, turbot bouillabaisse and rouille.”

The LOMA listing praises the seasonal ingredients and charming staff: “On the shores of Loch Lomond, a mere 30-minute drive from Glasgow, LOMA by Graeme Cheevers occupies an intimate space hemmed with banquettes, touches of marble and a gold and cappuccino colour scheme within Cameron House resort.

“The charming front of house team are naturally engaging, proactive and unscripted in their approach.

“The food is all about seasonality, honest flavours and intelligent use of prime Scottish materials – superlative hand-dived Orkney scallops working in harmony with Muscade pumpkin, sea buckthorn and finger lime to bring out the best in their flavour, while game is represented by roasted saddle of Borders venison alongside beetroot purée, Japanese quince, salsify and Kampot pepper sauce.”

It was announced that Graeme Cheevers would open LOMA in Cameron House in early 2025, after the success of his Michelin Starred UNALOME by Graeme Cheevers restaurant in Glasgow’s west end.

Loma blends classical techniques with contemporary creativity, delivering an experience that reflects both its stunning Loch Lomond surroundings and chef Cheevers’ distinctive style.
