Fake Tweet causes panic over claims alcohol content of Buckfast could be slashed

The Tweet by @Chandler&CoLtd sparked an online reaction when it claimed that due to "strict new Government legislation" Buckfast would be cut "from 15 per cent alcohol to just 7 per cent".

The social media post was then reported on by a national newspaper seemingly confirming it as true and angering fans who believed it was genuine.

However, the actual Buckfast account @StewartWilson19, which is linked to the main website, has since rubbished the claim and calling it false, much to the relief of those who drink the tonic wine.

Posting from their official account, the drink's producers said: "Following a false statement which was issued on social media. We can confirm that we are NOT changing our recipe or our alcohol content."
