Bruichladdich team up with Whitebox for 'summer ready' high strength canned cocktails

As the ready to drink cocktail market grows, two Scottish businesses have teamed up for a premium range of bartender-led drinks that are ideal for summer parties.

Bruichladdich Distillery has linked up with bartender-founded drinks brand Whitebox to create a limited run of full-strength canned cocktails as demand grows for more premium, bar-quality options that can be enjoyed at home.

The four cocktail range marks a significant move for the Hebridean distillery, best known for its single malt Scotch whisky and The Botanist gin, and reflects wider changes within a category once defined by convenience but now increasingly shaped by quality.

Globally valued at close to $40bn and continuing to grow, the ready to drink sector has seen particularly strong momentum at the premium end, with spirit-led cocktails emerging as a key driver.

Rather than adapting recipes to suit the format, the Bruichladdich x Whitebox collection has been built to mirror classics as closely as possible, both in composition, strength, and serve.

The result is a series of cocktails that sit well above the typical ABV of the category, and are designed to be served with the same care as their bar-made counterparts.

The Dry Martini, made with The Botanist gin, is bottled at 33.9% ABV and intended to be stored in the freezer before serving, delivering a crisp, structured drink with a clean, dry finish – all at the perfect temperature.

The Bruichladdich team recommends it should be served straight from the freezer into a Nick & Nora glass, with an olive to garnish.

Alongside it, the White Negroni, also built on The Botanist and bottled at 21.8% ABV, offers a brighter, more aromatic profile, with citrus peel, gentle bitterness and layered herbal notes. It’s served best in a rocks glass, with an ice block and orange peel to garnish.

The whisky-based serves draw more directly on Bruichladdich’s house styles.

The Whisky Sour, made with the unpeated Classic Laddie and bottled at 19% ABV, is fresh and balanced, combining citrus sharpness with a rounded sweetness and soft texture. The perfect serve is in a rocks glass, with ice block, and a lemon wheel to garnish.

The Penicillin, built on the heavily-peated Port Charlotte and bottled at 22.5% ABV, brings a more robust profile, with peat smoke, honey and ginger combining to create a warming, complex drink. The Penicillin is best served in a rocks glass with ice, garnished with fresh lemon peel and ginger.

Gareth Brown, global marketing director at Bruichladdich, said the range reflects a growing consumer expectation that convenience should not come at the expense of quality – which is why Whitebox was the perfect partner.

He said: “There’s a clear shift towards drinks that deliver the same experience you’d expect in a great bar, but in a more accessible format. What’s exciting about this range is that it doesn’t dilute what we do as a distillery – you can taste the character of The Botanist, of The Classic Laddie, of Port Charlotte in every serve.

“Working with Whitebox – the most exciting and authentic creators in premium ready-to-serve drinks – was crucial. With deep bartending experience, they bring a deep understanding of how these cocktails should be made – the balance, the structure, the detail – and that shared approach has allowed us to create something that feels both authentic and genuinely new, while of course being absolutely delicious.”

The collaboration also represents the first time Whitebox has partnered with a distillery. Founded by bartenders, the company has built its reputation on replicating classic cocktails in canned form, with a focus on precision and consistency.

Josh Rennie, co-founder of Whitebox, said the premium end of the ready to drink market is being driven by consumers seeking more recognisable, spirit-led drinks.

He said: “People are drinking better across the board – whether it’s coffee, chocolate or cocktails. Once you’ve had a great version of something, it’s hard to go back.

“These are full-strength, classic cocktails made exactly as they should be – using the right spirits, the right ingredients, and the right proportions. We set out to create ready-to-serve cocktails that, if poured into a glass, should taste like something you’d enjoy in a great bar anywhere in the world.

“Most people don’t have the time, ingredients or confidence to make these drinks at home, but they still want that experience. This is about removing the effort, not lowering the standard. You can just chill the can, pour it out, and you’ve got a perfectly balanced cocktail every time.”

The initial release will be limited, with around 5,000 cans of each cocktail produced and distributed through Bruichladdich’s own channels.

The range is priced at £6 per can (available only from the distillery visitor centre), or £20 for a four-pack online.
