The Scottish Fish and Chip Awards were set up three years ago due to frustration over UK organisations not giving enough recognition to the superb offerings, produce and people in the trade here.
Now regarded as the Oscars of the chippy world, the honours are hotly contested and a high point of the year for the industry – wins have a huge impact as people flock to try the best of the best.
Big wins include Best Fritter, Best Menu, Best Newcomer, Best Fish Tea and one of the most coveted gongs, People’s Choice Award.
Two key categories - Best Fish Supper and Best Chip Shop - are split up into regions to ensure the competition is as fair and as wide-ranging as possible, so the result is truly accurate and everyone knows their local hero.
Warren Paul, awards director and founder, said: “This event is really special to us and to all the entrants and winners, because it was set up for all the right reasons.
“We are incredibly lucky here in Scotland to have some of the most dedicated, passionate and talented people on the planet devoting their lives to serving up spectacular food every single time, and at a decent price too.
“I created the Scottish Fish and Chip Awards because no one was working to give these everyday heroes and heroines of the food world the platform and spotlight they deserve.
“So after all these years it’s wonderful to see how much a win or highly recommended nod means to them and the genuine impact it has on business for everyone recognised – even we are surprised sometimes by the size of the upturn a win brings.
“It’s a lot of work pulling it all together and as ever we’re grateful to our team, at paramount and our panel of roving judges who visit EVERY entrant from Stranraer to Stornoway, Dumfries to Thurso.
“Most of all thanks to everyone involved in keeping fish and chips at the very heart of Scotland year after year – and congratulations to everyone who made the finalist list too, which is a big achievement in itself.”
The awards begin with public nominations where anyone can suggest their favourite for consideration, then a round of voting before finalist lists are drawn up and the work of visiting, sampling and rating every shop and item begins.
Judges scores decide most awards but two special categories are different – there was a live fry-off at the hotel for the prestigious Best Fish Fryer, judged by experts celeb chef Aldo Zilli, Doubletree Hilton exec chef Stuart Goldie and journalist and gastronome Sean Murphy.
Here are all the winners of the 2025 Scottish fish and chip awards.
