Choosing to get a dog is a huge decision to make, and one that more of us than ever before have taken in recent year – around one-in-three UK households now contain at least one four-legged friend.
While some are seeking a new puppy, other big-hearted potential dog owners are happy to adopt a pet that is looking for a new forever home after perhaps not having the best start in life.
The Dogs Trust are dedicated to matching up dogs in need of a home with their perfect owner, and their centre in Glasgow currently has a wide selection of pooches.
To see if you’re a potential match, just fill in an application form here with all your details and let the Dogs Tust match you up with a suitable pet.
They’ll then look at how closely your lifestyle matches the needs of the dog and, if you’re a great fit for your selected animal, they’ll invite you to meet your prospective pup.
They may also organise a home check to make sure it’s suitable for your new family member.
You can also pop into the rehoming centre before submitting the application to see the dogs beforehand.
Here are 13 of the dogs currently looking for a home.

9. Heidi
Heidi is a brilliant girl with so much potential. Her favourite thing is to play tug-of-war and she is a big fan of her snacks. She is approximately 5-years-old and looking for an experienced home where she can continue to work on her basic training and dog socialisation. There is very limited information regarding Heidi's past, so it is not known how Heidi will be in the home, especially in regards to being left alone, house-training and travelling in a car. She does require direct access to her own secure garden with a 6ft fence so she has somewhere safe to zoomie. Heidi will need to be kept on a lead whilst in public and is looking for an adult only home. | Dogs Trust

10. Bear
Bear is 7-year-old Yorkshire Terrier who is looking for a family who have previously owned a rescue dog or a similar breed. Bear is uncomfortable with some handling and prefers his own space. Once he gets to know you, he does enjoy jumping onto your lap for snuggles and a snooze but this relationship will only come with time. He would benefit from having quiet places around the home to retreat to if feeling overwhelmed. Although Bear enjoys socialising with other dogs on his walks, he would prefer to have the home to himself. He would also love to have his own private garden that can be accessed straight from the home that has a 5ft minimum fence. Bear will need to be kept on lead whilst out in public due to his high prey drive and worried behaviour. He would also be looking for any children in the home or visiting to be 16 years and over and he would benefit from a quiet home with limited visitors. Bear has enjoyed some time in foster where he is a great companion, house-trained and he likes to help with jigsaws and/or reading books. | Dogs Trust

11. Fred
Fred is an approximatelty 5-year-old Pug cross who loves people and is very affectionate. He is looking to have a home with direct access to the garden with a 5ft fence to keep him safe and secure. Fred has previously been overwhelmed when around dogs, so he'd like to be the only pet in the home and continue his socialisation skills with other dogs in his new home. Fred is looking for any children in the home to be 18 years or older and Frog could be left alone for 3-4 hours a day, which should be built up gradually. Fred is a fun loving little guy with lots of personality and is going to make a wonderful addition to an experienced family. | Dogs Trust

12. Bree
Beautiful Bree is a 3-year-old girl who loves to play with her ball. She is a friendly lady who loves meeting people and is really playful. She would prefer to be the only pet in the home but could make dog friends on her walks as she does enjoy the company of some dogs, but she can be quite OTT off-lead. Bree has shown that she isn't comfortable around children so is looking for an adult only home, and this does include visitors. Bree has also been trained to wear a muzzle during stressful situations, which also includes when fast-moving things pass her such as cyclists, or children. This lovely lurcher would like direct access to a private secure garden that has a 6ft fence so she can zoom around to her heart's content. | Dogs Trust
