The Great Beyond, which was filmed in Scotland under the name Ghostwriter last June, is set for release in November.

After shooting in Scotland last year, the release date and name for J.J. Abrams’ new blockbuster has been revealed.

Officially titled The Great Beyond, the film was shot in Glasgow and Edinburgh last June under the working name of Ghostwriter, with stars such as Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega, Emma Mackey and Samuel L Jackson all spotted on set.

It is Abrams’ first film since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, with a release date set for November 13.

The production took over areas of Glasgow and Edinburgh, with streets transformed by futuristic signage and stunts being shot on typically busy city streets.

So far, details on the plot have remained tightly under wraps, though some rumours suggest it will follow a fantasy author who discovers the world he has been writing about is real.

Abrams’ film marks Powell’s second time shooting in Scotland, following Edgar Wright’s adaptation of The Running Man which was released last year. Samuel L Jackson has also previously filmed in the country, even surprising fans with an appearance at Bongo's Bingo in Glasgow in 2023. Sophie Okonedo and Merritt Wever are also set to appear.
