Building Society in Aberdeen collecting items and Christmas gifts for local charities

Colleagues at Yorkshire Building Society's Aberdeen branch are collecting gifts and other items for two local charities.

Tea, coffee, snacks, toiletries, hats, gloves and scarves are being collected by Yorkshire Building Society in Aberdeen to support Street Friends, a local charity which helps people who are homeless.

The branch, at 355 Union Street, has also become a collection point for presents for children via the ‘Instant Neighbour Giving Tree Tags’ appeal where people take a gift tag, detailing a child’s age, from a Christmas tree in the building society branch, then return with a Christmas gift for that child. The appeal helps give a Christmas gift to children across the city and shire, who would otherwise not receive one this Christmas.

Instant Neighbour has been supporting people in Aberdeen for almost 40 years. The charity supports people on low incomes to set up home, by providing access to low-cost furniture, white goods, clothing and bric-a-brac.

Colleagues at the branch will also be selling hand-made Christmas crafts and treats to raise money for the Society’s official charity partner, FareShare.

Cheryl Hyland at the Aberdeen branch of Yorkshire Building Society, said: “We are proud to be able to support these brilliant charities in our community in Aberdeen and we really want to help make a difference to those that are in need this Christmas.

“Items can be dropped off at the Aberdeen branch on Union Street until the 2nd December and we are grateful for any donations, large or small.”

Items can be dropped into the branch between 9am – 4.30pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday or 9.30am – 4.30pm on a Wednesday.
