Scottish forestry contractor to ‘grow at pace’ with £5 million investment
“Forestry has huge potential in the UK economy, but it hasn’t always attracted this kind of backing” – Dave Godfrey, MD
A forestry harvesting specialist has secured £5 million of investment to scale its operations and strengthen domestic timber supply.
Torra - formerly operating as Metsa - has secured funding from Edinburgh-based Windward Enterprises to expand its specialist fleet and embed new planning technology, increasing harvesting output and operational precision.
The investment deal is said to reflect rising demand for home-grown timber and an increasing strategic focus on supply chain resilience across the UK construction sector.

Operating across Scotland and Northern England, Torra specialises in harvesting in steep and technically challenging terrain.
Dave Godfrey, managing director at Torra, said: “This investment allows us to grow at pace while maintaining the standards that have defined us - safety, transparency and operational performance.
“The move marks a new chapter. Forestry has huge potential in the UK economy, but it hasn’t always attracted this kind of backing. Having an out-of-sector investor behind us is a strong sign of where the industry is heading.”
Oliver Millican, chief executive at Windward Enterprises, said: “Domestic timber production is strategically important for the UK’s construction sector and long-term supply resilience. Torra is a technically strong operator in a growing market.
“Our investment backs a management team with the ambition and capability to scale responsibly and reflects Windward Enterprises’ interest in supporting businesses that are building long-term capacity in Scotland and across the UK.”
Torra works exclusively with Grown in Britain timber and supports sustainably managed woodlands across Scotland and Northern England.
