Scotland Scale Up 75 reveals top five growth firms
The five independent Scottish businesses tipped to be the country’s fastest growing have been named in a new ranking.

The five independent Scottish businesses tipped to be the country’s fastest growing have been named in a new ranking.
Insider Media has published its inaugural list of the 75 independently owned Scottish businesses expected to grow significantly over the next 12 months.
Companies on the list span hygiene services, specialist food retail, engineering, aesthetics and energy management.
The ranking, produced in partnership with Red Flag Alert Technology Group, is based on the firm’s data and refined by Insider Media’s research team.
It focuses on Scottish businesses formed in the last 15 years and excludes subsidiaries, housing trusts and shell companies.
The top five fastest-growing companies are led by Graham Hygiene Services in Blairgowrie, which has estimated turnover of £0.97m and a growth score of 88.5.
It is joined by Edinburgh-based Mellis Cheese (estimated turnover £3.58m) and PDC Systems in Inverurie (£1.09m), along with FTT Skin Clinics Hamilton (£0.88m) and Glasgow-based CCL Energy Group, which has estimated turnover of £164.64m.
All five firms recorded a growth score of 88.5.
Growth score is a predictive metric assessing the likelihood of achieving at least a 20 per cent increase in turnover in the next 12 months.
The ranking launches as Scotland’s political and business communities intensify their focus on scaling.
The recently published Scaling Scotland report, led by former Skyscanner executive Shane Corstorphine, called for urgent action to address what it described as Scotland’s “scale-up gap”.
The report estimates that closing the gap could unlock more than 100,000 high-value jobs and £20bn in annual revenue.
“Scotland’s entrepreneurial landscape acts like a startup when it needs to behave like a scale-up,” said Corstorphine.
“We can picture a Scotland where ambition is normal, not exceptional, a place where entrepreneurs are backed with the right talent, boards and capital to compete confidently on the world stage.”
Red Flag Alert founder Richard West said growth potential is visible across every sector. “You don’t have to give it a new name like Meditech or Fintech. We need to encourage new leadership in traditional industries and show that you don’t need a degree to lead a successful business,” he said.
Scotland’s scale-up community is seen as central to driving national prosperity. Scale-ups generate a significant share of SME turnover across the UK while accounting for less than one per cent of firms.
COMPANY PROFILES
1) Graham Hygiene Services (Blairgowrie)
Graham Hygiene Services provides commercial hygiene and washroom services to organisations across Scotland.
The business supplies and supports workplace essentials including soap and sanitiser systems, paper products and washroom consumables, typically delivered through recurring service contracts.
Demand for reliable hygiene provision has strengthened in recent years as businesses have tightened standards around cleanliness, wellbeing and compliance.
Despite turnover sitting below £1m, the company ranks among Scotland’s top five fastest-growing firms in Insider’s new Scale Up 75 list, indicating strong momentum and a highly scalable service model.
2) Mellis Cheese (Edinburgh)
Mellis Cheese is an Edinburgh-based specialist food and drink retailer focused on artisan cheese and premium produce.
The business is built around curation, expertise and provenance, with customers seeking guidance, gifting options and quality products that stand apart from mainstream retail.
Food and drink remains one of Scotland’s most resilient sectors, and specialist operators can scale through multiple sites and online channels.
With estimated turnover of £3.58m, the highest in the top five, Mellis also records a top growth score in Insider’s Scale Up 75, signalling strong momentum and continued demand for premium offerings.
3) PDC Systems (Inverurie)
PDC Systems is an engineering-led business operating in industrial systems and technical services.
Firms in this space typically support customers with the design, installation and servicing of specialist equipment, working across industries where reliability matters, including infrastructure, utilities and energy-linked supply chains.
The north east remains a strong base for technical expertise, with increasing demand for engineering capability as assets are upgraded and modernised.
With estimated turnover of £1.09m, PDC Systems sits in an early scale-up bracket. Its high growth score suggests strong contract momentum and a pipeline capable of driving turnover growth.
4) FTT Skin Clinics Hamilton (Hamilton)
FTT Skin Clinics Hamilton operates in Scotland’s growing aesthetics and skincare market, offering treatments focused on skin health and cosmetic outcomes.
Clinics in the sector typically build repeat demand through programmes, trusted practitioner-led services and strong customer retention.
The market has expanded as consumers increasingly invest in non-surgical treatments and preventative skincare.
With estimated turnover of £0.88m, the company remains relatively small, but its position in the top five fastest-growing firms in Insider’s Scale Up 75 highlights rapid momentum.
A high growth score indicates strong likelihood of sharp turnover growth over the next 12 months, supported by bookings and referrals.
5) CCL Energy Group (Glasgow)
CCL Energy Group is a fast-growing energy-sector business with estimated turnover of £164.64m, making it the largest company among the top five by revenue.
Operating in a market shaped by rising demand for energy efficiency and decarbonisation, businesses in this space typically support organisations with energy management solutions and services designed to cut consumption and costs.
Scotland’s energy transition agenda is creating opportunities for firms able to scale delivery and win large corporate or public-sector contracts.
CCL’s high growth score indicates strong momentum and a high likelihood of achieving at least a 20 per cent rise in turnover over the next 12 months.
SCALE UP 75 METHADOLOGY
Scale Up 75 ranks the fastest-growing independently owned Scottish businesses using Red Flag Alert (RFA) data and Insider Media research.
The ranking uses estimated turnover alongside RFA’s Growth Score, a forward-looking metric designed to identify companies on a growth trajectory, including firms that can be “invisible” in traditional lists until they publish full accounts or attract investment.
RFA’s Growth Score predicts the likelihood a business will achieve at least 20 per cent year-on-year turnover growth, using the OECD definition.
The model draws on more than 100 financial variables, sector benchmarks and behavioural/event signals, and separates firms into eight size-based scorecards for accuracy.
Built using eight years of data, the scoring is weighted towards recent performance and bands companies from Very Likely to Grow to Very Unlikely to Grow.
